Suggestions

  • • Serve warm with ice cream on the side. The contrast between hot and cold is what we usually aim for.

Drink Pairings

  • • other: Tea or coffee after dessert.

Side Pairings

  • • Vanilla ice cream.

Storage

Fresh

  • • Duration: 2 days
  • • Temperature: 5°C
  • • Method: Store sealed in the fridge. Reheat in the oven if you want a crisp topping again.

Frozen

  • • Duration: 1 months
  • • Temperature: -18°C
  • • Method: Freeze without ice cream. Thaw and bake at 180 °C until the topping is golden.

Reheating

  • • Oven: Heat at 180 °C for 15–20 minutes until piping hot throughout. (180°C)

Tips

Preparation

  • • Apples should be firm enough to hold shape in the oven. Very ripe apples may turn to mush — that still tastes fine, but the filling will be softer.

Cooking

  • • Cover with foil for the last minutes if the topping browns before the apples are tender.

Serving

  • • Let the ice cream sit out a few minutes so it scoops easily when the crumble reaches the table.

Variations

Flavor

  • A pinch of nutmeg in the apples adds warmth.
  • Mix half pear and half apple if you have ripe pears.

Method

  • If the apples are very tart, add an extra spoonful of sugar in the dish.

Toppings

  • Chopped almonds in the crumble add more crunch.
