Tips
Preparation
- • Chop the vegetables at home for faster cooking outdoors.
- • Measure pasta and liquid into bags at home so you don’t carry extra.
- • Use short pasta (penne, fusilli) – it cooks more evenly in a thick sauce than spaghetti.
- • Pack tomato paste in a small container – easy to empty into the pot without mess.
Cooking
- • Stir often so the pasta does not stick.
- • Turn the heat down once the pasta goes in – simmer, don’t boil hard.
- • Adjust the liquid: the sauce should be thick, not dry. Add ½ dl water at a time.
- • Too little liquid leaves raw pasta in the middle; too much makes a watery sauce.
- • Put the lid on for the last 3–4 minutes so the pasta softens without burning.
Serving
- • Add cheese for extra energy on the trail.
- • Add pesto or olive oil for more richness.
- • Serve straight from the pot – less washing up.
