For the birch
- 1 stk Shrovetide branches (birch or willow)
- 1 stk string or ribbon
- 1 stk cellophane bags or baking parchment
Mini vanilla cakes
- 3.5 oz butter
- 2.6 oz sugar
- 5.3 oz plain flour
- 1 tsp vanilla sugar
Oat balls
- about 0.8 cup rolled oats
- 1.8 oz butter
- 1 tbsp sugar
- 1 tbsp cocoa
Popcorn
- about 0.4 cup popcorn kernels
Instructions

Mini vanilla cakes
- Cream butter and sugar until soft.
- Add flour and vanilla sugar, and bring the dough together.
- Shape small cookies and bake at 180°C for 10–12 minutes.
- Let the cakes cool completely.

Oat balls
- Mix oats, sugar and cocoa in a bowl.
- Add butter and stir until the mixture holds together.
- Roll into small balls and refrigerate until set.

Popcorn
- Pop the kernels using your preferred method.
- Let the popcorn cool completely so it does not form condensation in the bag.

Assemble the birch
- Wrap cakes, oat balls and popcorn in cellophane or parchment and tie securely.
- Tie the packages onto the branches with string or ribbon.
