Yeast dough
- about 1.1 cup milk
- 0.9 oz yeast
- 2.6 oz sugar
- 2.6 oz butter
- 1 stk egg
- 1.1 lb wheat flour
- 1 tsp salt
Vanilla cream
- 1¼ cup milk
- 2 tsp vanilla sugar
- 2 tbsp sugar
- 2 tbsp cornstarch
- 2 stk egg yolks

Make the vanilla cream
- Whisk milk, sugar, vanilla sugar, cornstarch and egg yolks together in a saucepan.
- Heat, whisking constantly, until thickened.
- Remove from the heat and let cool completely.

Mix the yeast dough
- Warm the milk slightly and dissolve the yeast in it.
- Add the sugar, egg and salt.
- Stir in the flour a little at a time.
- Knead in the softened butter last.

Let the dough rise
- Cover and let rise in a warm spot for about 45 minutes.

Shape and fill the buns
- Divide the dough into 12 equal pieces.
- Flatten each piece and place a generous spoonful of vanilla cream in the centre.
- Seal the dough well around the filling and shape into buns.
- Place the buns seam-side down on a baking tray.

Second rise and bake
- Cover with a tea towel and let rise for about 15 minutes.
- Bake at 200°C in a conventional oven for 10–12 minutes.
- The buns should be pale and soft.
