    • about 1.1 cup milk
    • 0.9 oz yeast
    • 2.6 oz sugar
    • 2.6 oz butter
    • 1 stk egg
    • 1.1 lb wheat flour
    • 1 tsp salt
  • Vanilla cream

    • cup milk
    • 2 tsp vanilla sugar
    • 2 tbsp sugar
    • 2 tbsp cornstarch
    • 2 stk egg yolks

    Make the vanilla cream

    1. Whisk milk, sugar, vanilla sugar, cornstarch and egg yolks together in a saucepan.
    2. Heat, whisking constantly, until thickened.
    3. Remove from the heat and let cool completely.

    Mix the yeast dough

    1. Warm the milk slightly and dissolve the yeast in it.
    2. Add the sugar, egg and salt.
    3. Stir in the flour a little at a time.
    4. Knead in the softened butter last.

    Let the dough rise

    1. Cover and let rise in a warm spot for about 45 minutes.

    Shape and fill the buns

    1. Divide the dough into 12 equal pieces.
    2. Flatten each piece and place a generous spoonful of vanilla cream in the centre.
    3. Seal the dough well around the filling and shape into buns.
    4. Place the buns seam-side down on a baking tray.

    Second rise and bake

    1. Cover with a tea towel and let rise for about 15 minutes.
    2. Bake at 200°C in a conventional oven for 10–12 minutes.
