Suggestions

  • • Serve in warm mugs. The drink cools while you sit at the table — that is normal.

Side Pairings

  • • Pastries and fruit.

Dessert Pairings

  • • Apple crumble.

Storage

Fresh

  • • Duration: 3 days
  • • Temperature: 5°C
  • • Method: Store in a bottle or jar in the fridge. Reheat by simmering.

Frozen

  • • Duration: 1 months
  • • Temperature: -18°C
  • • Method: Freeze in portions. Thaw and heat gently.

Reheating

  • • Pot: Heat over low heat until steaming hot. Stir as you go. (Low heat)

Tips

Preparation

  • • Use juice without added sugar if you can. Then honey controls the sweetness.

Cooking

  • • Boiling instead of simmering makes the juice bitter. Keep it gentle.

Serving

  • • For a large batch, strain the spices and pour back into the pot so nobody gets a whole clove in their cup.

Variations

Flavor

  • A few slices of ginger add gentle heat. Fish them out before serving.
  • A vanilla pod simmered along gives softer sweetness.

Method

  • The drink can stay warm on low heat in the pot. Stir now and then so it does not scorch.

Toppings

  • Orange or apple slices in the cup make it festive without overpowering the flavour.
