Suggestions

  • Serve right away – that is when the bubbles are at their best.
  • Make it extra New Year’s festive with ice-cold glasses and a thin strip of lime zest on the rim.

Drink Pairings

  • Sparkling: Keep toasting with a dry sparkling wine at midnight

Side Pairings

  • Salted almonds or small olives
  • Crispy chips or nut crunch

Dessert Pairings

  • Light citrus dessert or sorbet

Storage

Fresh

  • Duration: 7 days
  • Temperature: 5°C
  • Method: Store the syrup in the fridge

Tips

Preparation

  • Chill the tonic and glasses well – it gives more fizz and a crisper drink.
  • Make the ginger syrup ahead of time so the drink can be assembled in under 1 minute.

Cooking

  • Taste and adjust the lime: for a fresher note, add an extra 0.5 cl.
  • Stir only briefly – the bubbles are part of the experience.

Serving

  • Keep the garnish simple: a lime slice or a thin strip of zest adds a festive touch without fuss.

Variations

Flavor

  • More acidity: extra lime
  • More warmth: a touch of extra ginger syrup

Health

  • Less sweet: use 1 cl ginger syrup and add a little extra lime

Method

  • Shake gin, lime and syrup with ice in a shaker and top with tonic for more body

Toppings

  • Garnish with a small sprig of rosemary
  • Add a few frozen berries as ice cubes
